The 2010 Filipino biographical drama film Rosario came into life through Albert Martinez’s effort. It stars Jennylyn Mercado with special participation by Dolphy.
It was based on the true story of Manuel V. Pangilinan’s grandmother and ended up as one of the most awarded films in the 2010 Metro Manila Film Festival.
Rosario Movie Plot
Set in 1920, the film follows Rosario (Jennylyn Mercado), a Filipina flapper who went back to the Philippines from New York City for a short vacation. Being a mestiza and the daughter of a Portuguese ship captain Don Enrique (Phillip Salvador) and Filipina Doña Adela (Eula Valdez), she has followed nothing but what her heart desires.
Her world starts to crumble when she gets involved in a scandalous affair. She fell in love with an older man Vicente Velez (Yul Servo), who manages her family’s tobacco plantation. Upon knowing about it, her father sent her to a convent.
But Rosario knows what her heart wants. She flees and elopes with Vicente to live in Manila and starts a family. This life is new to her and hard, but her love for Vicente conquered it.
However, fate is not yet done playing with her. Her blissful marriage gets threatened by two events: Vicente’s illness, and the appearance of the man who is luring her to commit adultery.
As a woman ahead of her time, up to what extent will Rosario defy the moral restrictions of her time?
