Ka Hector Movie is a Filipino biographical film based on the true-to-life story of Leopoldo Mabilangan, aka Ka Hector, a prominent leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) who was gunned down in 1994, a year after he surrendered to the government.
Produced by Seiko Films and Directed by Toto Natividad, this Ka Hector biopic earned the FAP Best Actor award for Phillip Salvador and FAP Best Story Adaptation for Humilde ‘Meek’ Roxas.
Ka Hector Movie Plot
At the start of the movie, five video clips were shown – the 1971 Plaza Miranda bombing, which occurred during a political campaign rally of the Liberal Party (LP); the declaration of Martial Law by then-President Ferdinand Marcos; the assassination of former Senator Benigno ‘Ninoy’ Aquino in 1983 at the Manila International Airport; the 1986 EDSA Revolution; and the so-called Mendiola massacre.
This action drama film show also highlighted the death of an innocent young boy named Hector, who was killed in the middle of the gunfight between the NPA rebels and government forces.
This was when Mabilangan started to use the name, Ka Hector. As commander of the Banahaw Command in Quezon, he led his group in giving justice to the victims of the greedy landowners.
Nevertheless, one of the most important scenes in this movie is Ka Hector’s surrender to the government, and featured the guest appearance of then-House Speaker Jose de Venecia as himself, in front of then-President Fidel V. Ramos (Ray Ventura). However, his decision was reportedly not accepted by his comrades. On April 3, 1994, Ka Hector was shot dead by unknown suspects in front in front of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Sto. Tomas, Batangas.
