Baby Tsina Movie stars Vilma Santos in the true-to-life story of Evelyn Duave Ortega, alias Baby Tsina, a Chinese-looking prostitute who was accused of murder in 1971 and received a death sentence.
Produced by Viva Films and directed by Marilou Diaz Abaya, this Vilma Santos won 2 out of 12 nominations – FAP Best Production Design award for Fiel Zabat FAP Best Musical Score award for Willy Cruz.
Baby Tsina Movie Plot Summary
The movie starts in 1969 when Baby Tsina (Vilma Santos) was working as a bar girl in Pussy Cat club in Malate, Manila.
That time, gangs were rampant and Evelyn met Roy (Phillip Salvador), a notorious gang leader, and they fell in love with each other. Their initial plan was to go to the US, but trouble went their way.
Toto (Johnny Delgado), another gang leader, was mad at Baby Tsina for exposing his extortion syndicate. One night, Toto and his men attacked the club and killed several people, and Roy killed him.
While escaping, they went to Jorge (Dindo Fernando), Evelyn’s lawyer friend. In real life, Evelyn Duave Ortega was found guilty on June 14, 1971, and fought the legal battle until she proved herself innocent on December 12, 1978.
