My Letters to Happy is a 2019 Filipino Romantic-Comedy film written and directed by Pertee Briñas. Previous to this directorial work, Briñas wrote the screenplays for Always Be My Baby (2016), Throwback Today (2017), and Tayo Sa Huling Buwan ng Taon (2019). TJ Trinidad and Glaiza de Castro share the lead roles in the movie.
TJ Trinidad garnered a Metro Manila Film Festival nomination for the best-supporting actor for his role in the movie Buy Now, Die Later (2015), and played President Manual L. Quezon in the movie Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral (2018). Previous to My Letters to Happy, Raiza de Castro rendered powerful portrayals in Liway (2018) and Cattleya: An OFW Story (2014).
My Letters to Happy Movie Plot
In My Letters to Happy, Trinidad plays Albert while De Castro plays Happy. Albert is a top gun advertising executive who suffers depression after the demise of his mother. Love finds a way to bring him back when he meets Happy through a dating app. As their relationship blossom, Albert discovers that Happy has bipolar disorder.
As the story moves forward, we see how a person with bipolar disorder go through the daily grinds of life and attempts to keep a relationship afloat. Jason, who is still reeling from his depression, now takes the unexpected role of saving Happy from drowning in her emotional and mental deluge.
While he needs redemption himself, Jason attempts to remain firm in his commitment to Happy. Seemingly insignificant incidents trigger Happy’s outbursts and put her relationship with Albert on the line. While wresting with the pain in his past, Alberts finds himself in a fight or flight dilemma with Happy.
