Produced by Athena Productions (not Regal Films), this first Shake Rattle and Roll trilogy horror movie won 3 major awards at the 1984 Metro Manila Film Festival including Best Actor for Herbert Bautista.
Shake Rattle and Roll Movie Plot Summary
In Episode 1 entitled “Baso” directed by Emmanuel H. Borlaza, Paolo (Rey “PJ” Abellana), his friend Girlie (Arlene Mulach), and his friend Johnny (Joel Torre) went to his grandfather’s abandoned house and performed spirit of the glass, hoping that they can talk to dead people for fun. Shortly, they were possessed by the spirits from the Spanish era – Paolo by Ibarra, Johnny by Juanito, and Girlie by Isabel, Juanito’s girlfriend.
In Episode 2 entitled “Pridyider” directed by Ishmael Bernal, Lorna (Charito Solis), her daughter Virgie (Janice de Belen), Lorna husband’s nephew Dodong (William Martinez), and their housemaid Nelia (Emily Loren) moved into another house, where its former tenants left an old refrigerator in the kitchen. Shortly, the refrigerator killed Nelia and later Dodong. Virgie is set to be the next victim, will Lorna be able to save her?
In Episode 3 entitled “Manananggal” directed by Peque Gallaga, teenager Douglas (Herbert Bautista), his young brothers Gio (Peewee Quijano), and Zia temporarily stay with their grandmother (Mary Walter) during Holy Week while their parents are working in Davao. On Maundy Thursday, Douglas serenaded a beautiful but mysterious woman Anita (Irma Alegre). But on Good Friday, he discovered that she is a “Manananggal,” so she chased him.
