Banal is a 2019 Filipino psychological horror film directed by Peter Abana and distributed by APT entertainment. Based on true events, the film was shot outdoors in the mountains of Moro, Bataan.
It stars actors Bianca Umali and Richard Tanfelix as the leading roles, with notable supporting roles from Andrea Brillantes, Taki Saito, and Kim Last. The film is also available for viewing on Netflix in the Philippines.
Banal Movie Plot
The film follows the story of an unsuspecting group of friends as they trek through what is said to be a sacred mountain. Having just started their summer break, the group of friends decided to spice up their vacation by hiking up the mountain on a Good Friday (a significant date, as it is believed to be the day Jesus Christ died).
Meanwhile, the devoutly religious Erika (played by Bianca Umali), seeks to climb to the peak of the mountain in hopes of having her terminally ill mother cured as legends speak of the mountain granting the wishes of those who have completed the journey to the peak.
As they make their way through the dense forest, an ominous atmosphere soon starts to settle in. Things slowly begin to go awry as mysteries and unknown horrors are thrown their way. Unbeknownst to them, they would soon be uncovering the disturbing secrets of the sacred mountain.
