Ekstra Movie stars Star for All Seasons Vilma Santos as a bit player in the Philippine TV series who wanted to be in the movies. Produced by Quantum Films and directed by Jeffrey Jeturian, this Pinoy drama box-office hit indie film won 8 major awards including a Best Actress award for Vilma Santos and Special Jury Prize for Jeffrey Jeturian at the 2013 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival.
Ekstra Movie Plot Summary
In the movie, Vilma Santos plays Loida Malabanan, a single mother and a bit player in telenovelas, a direct opposite of her status as one of the most awarded actresses in Philippine movies.
Here, a televenola entitled TV soap opera entitled “Nauna Kang Naging Akin” is undershooting daily and Loida is one of the extras. However, she does not mind simply because she really loves acting, especially with big stars. And despite having an unstable job and earning a small salary, Loida was able to send her daughter to college.
Nevertheless, this movie does not reveal the hardships, the stressful days and sleepless nights of directors, actors, and actresses as well the bad attitudes of some of them, and technical difficulties when doing a telenovela. It also exposed the dark side of showbiz – not enough rest and rest for bit players, waiting for long hours under harsh conditions before their turn on the set, and how bad they are being treated, even off-camera.
