Dekada 70 Movie stars an ensemble cast led by Vilma Santos, Christopher De Leon and Piolo Pascual and is based on the novel by Lualhati Bautista. Produced by Star Cinema and directed by Chito S. Roño, this family drama film won 33 major awards out of 43 nominations from various award-giving bodies and was submitted as the Philippines’ official entry for the ‘Best Foreign Language Film’ category of the 76th Academy Awards in 2004.
Dekada 70 Movie Plot Summary
In this movie, Vilma Santos plays Amanda Bartolome while Christopher de Leon plays Julián Bartolome Sr, her husband. They have five sons – Julian “Jules” Bartolome Jr. (Piolo Pascual), Isagani “Gani” Bartolome (Carlos Agassi)), Emmanuel “Em” Bartolome (Marvin Agustin), Jason Bartolome (Danilo Barrios) and Benjamin “Bingo” Bartolome (John Wayne Sace), The Bartolome family lives in a middle-class neighborhood in Manila.
As the movie title suggests, the movie set up is the 1970s, during the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos. The eldest son Jules became an activist and joined protests against Marcos, while Gani joined the US Navy. On the other hand, Amanda does not feel proud of herself. Jason was accused of possession of marijuana and was killed by cops. Later the entire Bartolome family joined an activist group to help overthrow Marcos.
