Black Magic is a 1987 Filipino comedy film directed by Relon Makiling and produced by Seiko Films. It stars the Philippines ‘King of Comedy Dolphy (Rodolfo Vera Quizon Sr.) and his future domestic partner Zsa Zsa Padilla.
It’s also the first in a string of film collaborations Director Makiling and Dolphy worked on, the final being Dino Dinero in 1990.
Black Magic Movie Plot
Dolphy (Rodolfo Vera Quizon Sr.) plays Demi, a good man but a middling janitor at a school who signs away his soul to the devil (Romy Diaz) in exchange for “black magic” powers.
Comedy ensues when he uses his powers for good in his tight-knit community to the frustration of the devil.
Ms. Valerie Salcedo (Zsa Zsa Padilla) is the English teacher at the school and Demi’s love interest. Bryan (Jimmy Santos) is the jealous admirer and Demi’s rival. Victor (Jestoni Alarcon) is the handsome yet clumsy, newly assigned police officer who tries to woo Elma (Jennifer Sevilla).
Demi encounters a colorful array of characters along the way including Padre Damaso, the good parish priest, Kapitan Betong the oblivious barangay captain, a lascivious brothel owner, local gangs, and orphaned kids who Demi takes in. Demi’s kind-hearted nature and unceasing helpfulness lead to a dangerous confrontation with the devil.
