Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story Full Movie (2011)

Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story is a biopic Filipino film starring Jeorge “E.R.” Estregan in the title role as Nicasio “Asiong” Salonga, with Carla Abellana and Phillip Salvador.

It was produced by Scenema Concept International and released by Viva Film. This was an acclaimed movie in 2011, bagging 11 awards in the Metro Manila Film Festival that year. This is the fourth version of the movie and is the first major Filipino film produced in black and white.

Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story Movie Plot

The movie takes from true-to-life events of notorious gangster Asiong Salonga(played by Jeorge “E. R.” Estregan)  in the late 1940s. This all takes place in the local of infamous Tondo, Philippines. It shows a lot behind the scenes and background about his motivation and a side that most people did not see during his iron-fisted reign as a mob boss.

With constant reminders from his pregnant wife, Fidela Fernandez-Salonga (played by Carla Abellana), and police brother Sgt. Domingo “Domeng” Salonga (played by Philip Salvador), Asiong becomes a Doctor Jekkyl and Mr. Hyde.

He rules like a dictator to his mob but manages to champion the needy and protect them from vicious rival gangs. This is all for the bid to become the king of Tondo.

Asiong gets caught in violent gunfights with the police and gang wars together with his comrades who had their own set of unique and ominous to funny nicknames. A betrayal changes the whole scene and the lives of the characters in the story.
