Mañanita is a 2019 Philippine action-drama film. The film was directed by Paul Soriano and written by Lav Diaz. Mañanita became an official entry to the Tokyo International Film Festival 2019.
It was produced by Ten17p Films, which also produced the movies First Love and Siargao. Director Paul Soriano admitted that it took him three years to produce and direct the movie.
Mañanita was inspired by the news feature about cops who would sing to drug users and dealers in the morning to force them to surrender in Davao del Norte.
They were called Mañanita cops. Instead of succumbing to violence, these cops would instead use their guitars to sing a song with messages of hope and forgiveness. The idea really struck and the film came into existence
Mañanita Movie Plot
In the movie, Bela Padilla plays the titular role of the heroine. She suffers from facial bruises and is known to spend her nights away at the bar getting drunk. She was a dismissed military shooter.
Bela’s character embarks on a journey to find the people who killed her parents. During this process, she deals with the turmoil of the world around her and the possibility of forgiveness – until a surprise phone call changes her life forever.
