Ang Mahiwagang Daigdig Ni Elias Paniki is a 1989 Filipino film starring Ramon Revilla, Sr. Directed and written by Carlo J. Caparas.
The movie follows the style of the 1980 fantasy action movie “Ang Panday” thereby establishing the traditional set of composition that makes a Filipino horror-action story: Philippine mythical creatures as villains; a barrio setting; and a hero that carries a mysterious charm with powers that effectively wards off evil.
Ang Mahiwagang Daigdig ni Elias Paniki Movie Plot
Elias is a gravedigger who fights evil creatures lurking in their barrio, driven by his desire to avenge his wife and kids who were slaughtered by an aswang. Armed with a bat charm given to him, a mallet, and a sharpened wood, Elias turns into a gravedigger of beasts.
In an unexpected turn of events, however, Elias finds his culminating fight in confrontation with the bat that dwells in the very charm that had backed him, this time revealing itself as half-bat and half-man.
Elias uses the charm and its flashing light effectively puts back the evil spirit into the bat-charm. The gravedigger hero destroys the charm, marking the end of the evil that has enveloped his barrio and took the lives of his loved ones. The act, however, Elias acknowledges, was a temporary attempt to ward off evil, suggesting the possibility of a return of these dark forces.
